Hiking
Härnösand has several fine hiking trails that lead to many beautiful viewpoints. There are trails for all tastes, from easy walks to really tough adventures. In winter you can walk the trails with snowshoes or our winter hiking trails with ordinary shoes.
Stop wonder - start wander
If you want to see all our hiking trails together, we have collected them on a hiking map.
You can find out more about some of our trails in our hiking guide.
Härnöleden

The Härnöleden trail starts at Härnösand Central, so you can hop on directly from the train or bus. The trail is just over two miles long and takes you around a large part of Härnön, via, for example, Sälsten, Smitingen and Vårdkasen. The trail is relatively easy and suitable for most people, but there are more demanding detours for those who want to. You walk in urban environments, through forests, over mountains and along the sea. There are several shelters and barbecue areas along the entire trail.
The Härnöleden trail is marked with blue signs and white dots on trees.
Smitingen

Smitingen is a nature reserve with fantastic nature experiences. There are several short trails for those who want to explore the surrounding area. The cave trail takes you to some beautifully carved tunnel caves right by the water. Along the two geology trails, you'll find rauks, pots and pits. You can also take a lap around Klubbsjön or why not climb Klubbsjöberget?
Fälleberget

On Fälleberget, about five kilometers south of Härnösand, there are several hiking trails. Lomtjärnsleden is 3.5 kilometers, Värptjärnsleden 5 kilometers and Svartviksleden 12.5 kilometers. The last one takes you to the Svartvik sea bath.
The nature is characterized by rocky areas alternating with marshes and small lakes. Along the trails there are several birdwatching spots. Here you will also find Värptjärn, which offers put and take fishing with planted fish and an accessible jetty.
Gådeåleden trail
Just a few kilometers south of Härnösand Central is the Gådeåleden trail, a 5.6 kilometer long and easy to walk trail. It starts at the new nature and recreation area Lövudden, where there are several barbecue areas, sunbeds and play equipment. It continues to Sparrudden at the mouth of the Gådeån river, where there is a bird tower, and continues up along the beautiful Gådeån river.
Härnö Trail

The Härnö Trail is designed for the annual trail race in early fall, but is equally suitable for those who enjoy more challenging hikes. The trail goes over a number of mountain peaks and at times it is really steep. The reward is fantastic views and lots of variety. Härnö Trail is available in three variants, 7, 14 and 21 kilometers long. All three start and finish at Vårdkasen.
Pleasenote that the Härnö Trail is only signposted in one direction.
Mjällådalen

Through the beautiful and hilly Mjällådalen nature reserve, Mjällån flows like a winding snake. There are several miles of hiking trails here, where the trails often go near the river and offer nice views and resting places. You will also find two shelters for overnight stays. The terrain is quite hilly in places, with high ridges and lots of ups and downs. The river is also popular for fishing.
Hiking in winter
Some of our hiking trails are also available as winter hiking trails where you can walk with ordinary shoes. With snowshoes it is possible to walk all trails and also in areas outside the trails.
