Lövudden and Sparrudden
Just south of Härnösand is Lövudden and Sparrudden, an outdoor and recreational area close to the city. There are barbecue areas, windbreaks, playground equipment and a bird tower where the river Gådeån flows into the sea. This is also the start and finish of the Gådeåleden trail.
Lövudden
Lövudden is a small outdoor recreation area directly adjacent to a residential area, where new villas and terraced houses have recently been built.
The outdoor area is also accessible for wheelchairs and the like. There are nice walking paths, barbecue areas, shelters and play equipment. There are also the remains of a sawmill that was once located here.
Sparrudden
Just south of Lövudden is Sparrudden, right at the outlet of Gådeån into the sea. There is a tower here for those who want to watch birds or just enjoy the beautiful view.
If you are lucky, you may also see beavers. If nothing else, there are usually plenty of beaver tracks nearby in the form of gnawed trees.
History of Lövudden
In the 1850s, Lövudden Manor was built in connection with a sawmill that was located here. Southern deciduous trees and several smaller exotic shrubs and herbs were planted in the manor's park. The manor was demolished in 1972, but some of the trees and plants remain in the area.
In 2016, the area was cleared of residual pollution from the sawmill and the whole area was cleaned up in connection with this. Trees that needed to be removed were replanted, a butterfly meadow was created and bird and bee hives were set up. Signs and other types of design highlight both natural and cultural heritage values.
Gådeåleden
Gådeåleden is a 5.6 kilometer long and easy to walk trail. It runs along Lövudden and Sparrudden and then follows the Gådeån river upstream to Gådeå village. There it turns and leads over mountains and through forest back to Lövudden.
