Härnösand is one of Sweden's best places for surfing. Autumn and winter storms create big waves on the outside of Härnösand and surfers from all over Sweden and even Norway come to Smitingen and Notsand to ride the waves.

Surfing at Smitingen is known far from Härnösand. On a cold, windy fall day when most people are huddled indoors, the bay in Smitingen is filled with boards and the parking lot is filled with motorhomes and caravans from near and far.
