Skiing
Performing or longitudinally. On groomed trails or in the wild. You just have to choose. In Härnösand there are many ways to ski and experience winter nature.
Downhill skiing
Vårdkasbacken is Härnösand's Mecca for downhill skiing. The slope is located almost in the middle of town - you can get there in 5-10 minutes.
The slope is south-facing and has four slopes and a snowpark. Långsvängen, 800 meters long, is the longest run on the slope. Other slopes are Stora backen 550 m, Teknikbacken of 300 m, Barnbacken of 250 m which is long, flat and easy to ski and a sledding hill right next to the children's slope.
The slope is run by Härnösands Alpina. Vårdkasen is also an outdoor area with much more to offer.
Groomed ski trails
There are several groomed ski trails throughout Härnösand municipality. Some of them are run by local associations, others by the municipality.
The facilities with the most and longest tracks are at Vårdkasen and Bondsjöhöjdens IP. At Vårdkasen there are tracks from 2.2 to 8 kilometers long. At Bondsjöhöjden, the longest track is 13 kilometers.
On skidspar.se you can see the current track status and leave reviews about the tracks.
Skiing in nature
With a pair of touring skis you can go almost anywhere in Härnösand's beautiful nature. A pair of regular cross-country skis is often fine too.
A popular area for "free" skiing is Fälleberget with its mountainous nature.
Another popular free skiing activity is to take a trip on the ice of Södra Sundet when the spring-winter sun is shining. Just remember to make sure the ice is thick enough.
