Sälsten
On the outskirts of Härnösand is Sälsten, which during the summer is a sea bath where visitors can choose between a grass or sandy beach. A little to the east along the beach are old boathouses in an old fishing village that is part of the County Museum's collection.
Sälsten sea baths
Sälsten's sea baths are within walking distance of the center. There is both a large grassy and sandy beach and several barbecue areas. Sälsten is very popular, especially later in the day and evening when the afternoon and evening sun is shining.
The boathouses and Lövhällan
Along the shoreline to the east, you will find old boathouses on a more rocky beach called Murbergets fiskeläge. This is an old fishing village that has been moved from Grunnan on southern Ulvön. The boathouses are part of the County Museum's collections. At the boathouses there are several barbecue areas
If you follow the path further you will reach Lövhällan with smooth rocks for secluded swimming. There is also a barbecue area and windbreak here.
Sälsten campsite
Between the bathing area and the boathouses, about two kilometers from the center, is Sälstens camping and cottage village with service facilities.
Härnöleden and other hikes
Härnöleden, which passes Sälsten, is just over two miles long and takes you around a large part of Härnön, for example to Smitingen and Vårdkasen. The trail is relatively easy and suitable for most people, but there are more demanding detours for those who want to. You walk in urban environments, through forests, over mountains and along the sea. There are several shelters and barbecue areas along the entire trail. The Härnöleden trail is marked with blue signs and white dots on trees.
The area around Sälsten is also popular for walking and jogging. There are many gravel roads and forest paths to discover.
Find the way
Sälsten is located on the very edge of the city center, on Härnön at the northern outlet.
