Kattastrand
Kattastrand is planned to be transformed from an industrial area into an attractive residential area close to the sea. Around 110 new homes are planned in the area, both terraced houses and apartment buildings.
The project
The project started when a private developer applied to build housing in the innermost part of the area. The municipality then drew up a planning program for the entire area with the aim of transforming the industrial area into a residential area.
The idea is to enable private developers to build around 110 new homes on Kattastrand. The plan is that this can be done in three stages, with the first directly adjacent to Bryggaren Strand.
The area
Kattastrand is located at Södra sundet, facing west with a view towards the city center. The area has long been an industrial area. Among other things, Härnösand's gas works was located here from 1916 to 1950. Hernö Brewery and a mechanical workshop were also located here.
Today there are several smaller industries, warehouses and the like in the area. Directly adjacent is the newly built area of Bryggaren Strand with terraced houses and apartment buildings.
2019
Investigations are being carried out on the innermost property, where a gas plant used to be, to see what contaminants are present in the soil. Work on the detailed plan is suspended until the contamination situation is clarified.
2017
The social administration develops a planning program for the entire area.
September 2016
A private developer applies for an amended detailed plan to build housing on Kattastrand.
