An attractive seaside promenade in the city
A lot will happen in central Härnösand between now and 2030. The Nybron bridge will be replaced, Kanaludden beach park will be refurbished, Utsprångskajen will be renovated and both Nybrogatan and Skeppsbron will be rebuilt. This is being done because roads and bridges are worn out, but also to create a modern and attractive urban environment and highlight the city's greatest asset - our shoreline.
- "We have the sea in the middle of the city and the waterfront location gives us a tremendous opportunity to create a very attractive route along our quays and beaches. Our municipality is now facing an expansion, with the goal of having 30,000 inhabitants by 2040, and then we must be attractive and be able to offer an attractive living environment," says Andreas Sjölander (S), Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board.
Together, the various projects will create a coherent and attractive waterfront path all the way from Bryggaren Strand to Sälsten. "Geographically, the major infrastructure projects are interlinked, especially at the bridge junction on Härnön where Nybron, Nybrogatan and Skeppsbron meet.
- It is important that we see the projects as a whole and do the right things in the right order. Each project needs to be in harmony with both previous and future projects and the vision we have for the entire route," says Andreas Sjölander.
The first of the projects is the replacement of Nybron. This work has already started in earnest and will get underway in early fall 2024. Then the others will get underway gradually. Until 2030, the projects will continue, sometimes two and three at the same time. Last up is the renovation of Skeppsbron, which will run from 2027 to 2029.
