Skeppsbron
Skeppsbron has great potential to become an attractive marine and green route from the city center to the bathing area at Sälsten. In the vision, the route may be filled with cafés and restaurants with outdoor seating, shops, activity areas, quays with leisure boats and tour boats, as well as Utsprångskajen, which can accommodate larger vessels.
The project
The development of Skeppsbron is part of the development of the entire center of Härnösand and is strongly linked to several other projects, such as Utsprångskajen, Nybron and Nybrogatan as well as the development of the area around Tobaks, Hernöverken and the new residential area Sälstens Udde. The vision is to create a marine path all the way from the residence to Sälsten's bathing area.
In the municipality's long-term investment plan, the reconstruction of Skeppsbron is planned for the years 2027-2029.
Plan program Skeppsbron
What is happening now is that a planning program has been developed and is waiting to be adopted by the City Council.
A planning program is a general planning document that will form the basis for future detailed planning. It can be seen as a cross between a general plan, which sets out the general planning for the entire municipality, and a detailed plan, which sets out concrete provisions on, for example, what may be built and how it may be built on a specific property.
The planning program sets out clear directions without going into detail.
The area
Skeppsbron is historically a maritime route where shipping has always played a major role and life on the quay has periodically been very lively with many workplaces. Life on Skeppsbron has been an important element in Härnösand's cityscape.
During the second half of the 20th century, the importance of shipping for Skeppsbron has declined and instead car traffic and parking lots have become a dominant feature. Today, the environment is dominated by hard surfaces with little greenery.
Strengthening the maritime feeling
The vision is now to strengthen the marine feeling and create a continuous path along the entire stretch from the residence to the bathing area at Sälsten. The idea is to make Skeppsbron a vibrant meeting place where shipping meets trade, cafés and restaurants and other elements.
Today, there are tour boats along the quay, as well as quays for the Swedish Army, the Coast Guard and the upper secondary school's maritime program.

August 2023
The Community Board adopts the draft planning program. The final decision will be taken by the City Council.
March 2023
A proposal for a plan program for Skeppsbron is presented and goes out for consultation.
June 2022
The municipal board adopts a ten-year investment plan. According to the plan, Skeppsbron will be rebuilt between 2027 and 2029.
Spring and summer 2021
Several dialogues are conducted, including with passers-by on site at Skeppsbron for a few days. Residents and visitors are also invited to give their opinion on the future of Skeppsbron in a survey.
September 2020
The municipal board decides to start work on developing a planning program for Skeppsbron.
Other exciting investments in infrastructure
Infrastructure
Nybron is one of two bridges connecting Härnön to the mainland. The current bridge was inaugurated in 1937 and needs to be replaced by a new one. The construction will last from 2024 to 2026.
Infrastructure
In 2025-2027, KUtsprångskajen will be renovated into a modern quay that can complement the deep port and accommodate smaller vessels. At the same time, the quay itself can become a meeting place for Härnösand residents and visitors.

Nybrogatan is Härnösand's main street. Nybrogatan stretches for a kilometer straight through Härnösand. Nybrogatan is in great need of renovation, both in terms of traffic solutions and design, to become the proud parade street it can and should be.
