Nybrogatan
Nybrogatan is Härnösand's main street. One kilometer long, it stretches from Härnösand Central, over Nybron, through the city center and to Villa Nybo at the top of the hill. Nybrogatan is in great need of renovation, both in terms of traffic solutions and design, to become the proud parade street it can and should be.
The project
Nybrogatan is in great need of renovation to become the proud parade street it can and should be. It is both about finding modern and smart traffic solutions and about how the street is designed.
The street currently does not work well for bicycle traffic and pedestrians can also find it difficult to cross the street. The goal of the future Nybrogatan is to accommodate all modes of transport in a smart way.
Nybrogatan is also of cultural and historical interest. The aim of the project is to highlight the character of Nybrogatan as a parade street and meeting place through design, such as lighting and equipment.
The area
Nybrogatan is Härnösand's most important tansport route. It is one of only two connections between Härnön and the mainland and is of great importance for the city's infrastructure and traffic. Every day, an average of 16,000 vehicles pass over Nybron and it is also Härnösand's most important bus route.
It also connects the city on its way from Härnösand Central via the city center with shopping and restaurants to our administrative center with the County Administrative Board, municipal activities and other institutions.
The entire area is covered by the national interest for cultural environment protection. Along the street are buildings from different eras. In the most central part there are many of Härnösand's most interesting houses, stone houses built around the turn of the last century.
Nybrogatan is mainly 18.5 meters wide, narrower over Nybron and wider on Kronholmen. The openable Nybron bridge was built in 1938 and is to be replaced.
Spring 2023
A roundabout is built to replace the traffic lights at the junction with Brunnshusgatan.
June 2022
The municipal board decides on a ten-year investment plan. According to the plan, SEK 54 million will be invested in Nybrogatan between 2025 and 2028.
January 2021
The community committee decides to proceed to the detailed level with the proposal for two cycle paths parallel to Nybrogatan.
October 2019
The Social Committee decides to continue working on a proposal where, among other things, bicycle traffic is moved to two paths alongside Nybrogatan and roundabouts will be investigated.
November 2017
The community committee decides to commission Tyréns to conduct a feasibility study for the future Nybrogatan.
