Pedestrian and cycle path to Smitingen
A new, safe pedestrian and cycle path will be built to Smitingen. The project will be completed in spring 2026, at the same time as the new Smitingen campsite opens.
The project
There has long been a desire for a safe pedestrian and cycle path to Smitingen and now that a new campsite is to be built at Smitingen, the project is even more relevant.
How the pedestrian and cycle path will be routed is being investigated, but it is clear that it will be separate from the traffic on Gånsviksvägen, except that it needs to cross the road at some point. The last part, from where the settlement in Gånsviksdalen ends, will be a so-called summer cycle path. This section will not be paved, but will be covered with hard-packed gravel.
The whole project will be completed in spring 2026, when the campsite is expected to open.
The area
Härnösand Hästsport Arena is located in the area.
The route of the new cycle path has not been decided, but it will start at the existing cycle path in the Gånsviksdalen residential area. In the area from there to Smitingen are, for example, Härnösand Hästsport Arena and Speckstatjärn, one of Härnösand's most accessible birdwatching sites. There is a bird tower and the chance to see a beaver or two.
Autumn 2023
The city council adopts the annual plan for 2024, which includes the investment in a new pedestrian road to Smitingen.

Nybron is one of two bridges connecting Härnön to the mainland. The current bridge was inaugurated in 1937 and needs to be replaced by a new one. The construction will last from 2024 to 2026.

Skeppsbron has great potential to become an attractive marine and green route from the city center to the bathing area at Sälsten. In the vision, the route may be filled with cafés and restaurants with outdoor seating, shops, activity areas, leisure boats and tour boats.

Nybrogatan is Härnösand's main street. Nybrogatan stretches for a kilometer straight through Härnösand. Nybrogatan is in great need of renovation, both in terms of traffic solutions and design, to become the proud parade street it can and should be.
