Pedestrian and cycle path to Smitingen
A new, safe pedestrian and cycle path will be built to Smitingen. The project will be completed in spring 2026, at the same time as the new Smitingen campsite opens.
The project
There has long been a desire for a safe pedestrian and cycle path to Smitingen and now that a new campsite is to be built at Smitingen, the project is even more relevant.
The pedestrian and cycle path will be separated from traffic on Gånsviksvägen, except that it needs to cross the road in one place. The last part, from where the settlement in Gånsviksdalen ends, will be a so-called summer cycle path. This section will not be paved, but will be covered with hard-packed gravel.
The whole project will be completed in spring 2026, when the campsite is expected to open.

The area
Härnösand Hästsport Arena is located in the area.
The new road will run from Gånsviksdalen via Kvarndalen to Smitingen.
The area is home to the Härnösand Hästsport Arena, one of Norrland's most modern equestrian facilities. There is also Speckstatjärn, one of Härnösand's most accessible birdwatching sites. There is a bird tower and the chance to see a beaver or two.
In the area there is the relatively easy Härnöleden hiking trail and the Härnö Trail for those who like more challenging hiking or running.
The Härnö Trail is a challenging trail with powerful nature experiences.
Autumn 2023
The city council adopts the annual plan for 2024, which includes the investment in a new pedestrian road to Smitingen.
