Strong communities create resilience

The importance of culture in the event of war and crisis and the resilience of communities is the focus of the RESCOM project, Resilient Communities Learning Platform. The municipality of Härnösand is a participant in the project funded by the Swedish Institute and the main partner is Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). Other partners in the project are local and regional authorities in Ukraine and Moldova.

The project

The resilience of societies is based on their ability to withstand, overcome and learn from the challenges they face. This requires qualities such as social skills, trust, a sense of belonging, the ability to collaborate and to organize.

RESCOM aims to create a platform for sharing experiences and approaches between cities and regions. The project has a particular focus on culture as a driver for civic engagement.

Drawing on practical experiences from communities in crisis, the project organizes a series of Learning Labs to contribute to resilient communities in the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Partnership countries.

- Through RESCOM, we aim to reach more people, include different perspectives and bring countries closer together. We are working to further strengthen our local community, develop knowledge and skills on resilience by exchanging experiences with other participants." says Judith van Weelie and Liene Abens, project participants working at Härnösand Library.

This project is funded by the Swedish Institute.
