Östanbäcken
The Östanbäcken neighborhood is a charming and well-preserved district in central Härnösand. A walk along Östanbäcksgatan takes just a few minutes, but takes you back several hundred years in time.
A genuine neighborhood in the city center
The Östanbäcken neighborhood is located in the middle of central Härnösand, Östanbäcksgatan starts right next to Storgatan and ends at the swimming pool facility on Kanaludden. In between, it winds its way through old and well-preserved wooden houses. Most of the houses were built in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Like many other similar areas, Östanbäcken was close to being demolished in the mid-20th century, but was saved and is now one of the most important expressions of the National Heritage Site in Härnösand, with its irregular plan structure from the 16th century.
